Hi.

My name is Dani. Welcome to my site where I share my journey to have a baby. I hope to shed light on the infertility journey that so many couples are on. If you are struggling to conceive, please know you are not alone and there is hope. Leave a comment or send me an email if you have questions.

Surgery

We hit the road early, grabbed our coffees, and drove from southern California to Tucson, Arizona.

We were so excited to get the reversal and start a family together.

We arrived after sunset and went straight to the hotel. International Center for Vasectomy Reversal (ICVR) had gifts and snacks waiting for us in the room. The hotel was really nice and close to ICVR.

The next morning we had to be up bright and early. It was actually still dark outside when we arrived at ICVR. We were greeted and walked back to the most comfortable waiting room (details about the room below). Dr. Marks entered the room a few minutes later, wearing Converse. How cool is that? He was tall and had a wonderful presence. He made us feel right at ease. I gave my husband a kiss and then he followed Dr. Marks to get ready for surgery.

Vasectomy reversal

I was so nervous and emotional.

It's an overwhelming feeling knowing your husband is putting himself through a vasectomy reversal so that he can have kids with you. Something he thought he would never want to do again, yet here he is. Love is a crazy, wonderful thing. As I was fighting back the tears, I explored the room in search of distractions. I had the room all to myself, so I could get as cozy as I wanted. And believe me, the couch was extremely comfortable! ICVR had a mini fridge full of assorted drinks, from water to soda to coffee. There was also a Keurig and creamers. Hungry? They had that covered with sweet and salty snacks. There were books, magazines, television, movies, articles, pictures, patient testimonies and more, all in the most comfortable waiting room I have ever experienced. So what did I choose to watch? Juno. FREAKING JUNO! I was an emotional mess. I had never seen that movie, and the cover looked cute, so I thought it would be a good distraction...wrong. You probably don't want to watch that movie if you're struggling to conceive or thinking about adopting. Maybe it was just me.

At some point I was asked to go to the laboratory. When I entered the room there was a monitor with a bunch of happy swimmers. What a relief! They collected a small sample during the procedure, and although it wasn't the best looking sperm, they said it was a good sign they were swimming and moving. Numbers should continue to increase with healing.

I was taken back to the recovery room where my husband was covered in blankets. He was still out of it, but happy to see me. I was certainly happy to see him out of surgery and smiling. It's done.

We're a step closer to having a baby.
