Hi.

My name is Dani. Welcome to my site where I share my journey to have a baby. I hope to shed light on the infertility journey that so many couples are on. If you are struggling to conceive, please know you are not alone and there is hope. Leave a comment or send me an email if you have questions.

First Appointment with the OBGYN

As a follow up to the E.R. visit, I was seen by an OBGYN. She said we have two healthy babies, with two heartbeats. However, she also said I have a subchorionic hematoma, and that she could see lots of blood in there still. We have a trip to Texas and North Carolina scheduled in 5 days from now, so I’m worried. The doctor said the pregnancy could go either way at this point. I could lose one or both babies, or I can go on to have a healthy pregnancy. Sometimes hematomas get reabsorbed by the body, and sometimes they stay there for the whole pregnancy, causing bleeding the entire time. Although that would be scary, the baby would be okay as long as the hematoma doesn’t detach the placenta.

Although this visit wasn’t what I wanted to hear, it provided answers for all the bleeding. As for the trip, the doctor said we should go as long as I don’t have red blood between now and then. As long as the bleeding is dark, old blood then we can fly. She wrote a letter for the airline in case I end up bleeding, so hopefully they won’t charge us too many fees to cancel the trip. Let’s hope for the best though.

An important thing she mentioned was that the babies are the best kind of twins. By best, I mean safest for the babies. They are fraternal twins with separate sacs and placentas. She said this is best in case one twin doesn’t make it, and it also shows better growth for the babies. Sometimes identical twins share the space, and one twin gets really big and the other is really skinny.

She wanted to see me next week, but we’ll (hopefully) be on vacation, so I have a follow up for the day after we return.
